Report: Nuggets, Millsap reach agreement on 3-year, $90M deal
Another Eastern Conference All-Star is headed to the West.
The Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement with free-agent power forward Paul Millsap, sources told Shams Charania of The Vertical. Millsap will reportedly earn $90 million over the next three seasons.
Millsap has ranked as one of the league's best two-way players ever since latching on with the Atlanta Hawks in 2013. He was named an All-Star in each of the past four seasons while averaging 17.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
Denver will likely have Millsap start alongside Nikola Jokic to form one of the league's most dynamic frontcourt pairings. Jokic and Millsap are both excellent passers, while Millsap's defensive abilities can help overcome Jokic's only weakness.
The Nuggets' hope is that the addition of Millsap can help end their playoff drought. Denver certainly has enough talent, but a vicious arms race has broken out in the Western Conference.
As for Atlanta, losing Millsap pushes the club another step toward rebuilding. The Hawks have lost their starting frontcourt from last season, and as things currently stand, their best player is an average point guard in Dennis Schroder.
The Hawks have also lost both Millsap and Al Horford for nothing in free agency in consecutive summers.
