White gives potential Johnson-Borg matchup tepid endorsement

UFC president Dana White isn't exactly putting all of his promotional gusto behind the next flyweight championship bout.

With bantamweight contender TJ Dillashaw reportedly no longer interested in dropping down a weight class to face 125-lb titleholder Demetrious Johnson, it appears that Johnson's 11th title defense will take place against Ray Borg.

Johnson recently addressed the rumors that he was avoiding Dillashaw in an impassioned statement in which he accused the UFC of trying to bully him into that matchup when he had already accepted an offer to fight Borg. White publicly accused Johnson of missing out on what he believes would be a more lucrative fight with Dillashaw and now he's warning Johnson that he should be careful what he wishes for.

"You're on the cusp of breaking the (title defense) record and doing all this stuff, ... and you're talking about superfights and you want $2 million and all this other stuff," White told John Morgan and Ken Hathaway of MMAjunkie. "So I'm not thrilled about it, but guess what? You want Ray Borg, we'll give you Ray Borg. I don't want to hear any (expletive) if it's not the blockbuster event you expect it to be."

Aside from the Dillashaw situation, much of the conflict between Johnson and White revolves around Johnson wanting to receive better compensation and a stronger marketing push. "Mighty Mouse" is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but that in-cage dominance hasn't translated into strong pay-per-view numbers or television ratings.

White offered a sarcastic response in regards to whether he expects a fight with the lightly regarded Borg to change that trend.

"You want Ray Borg, we'll give you Ray Borg," White said. "I'm sure the fans will be clamoring, and ticket sales will be through the roof and pay-per-views will be off the charts."
