Jerry West: Role with Clippers is 'the last adventure of my life'

Joining the Los Angeles Clippers organization in a consultant role is essentially Jerry West's National Basketball Association swan song.

"The Logo" was introduced by the Clippers to the media Monday evening, with West describing his new position as "the last adventure of my life."

"For them to want me to come here and maybe think I can help, I am really flattered," said West of the organization. "But I am sold on the ownership here. I am really sold on this ownership. I think they want to establish their own identity in this town, and that's what to me is most important.

"I don't believe you promise people anything. They've had the best team in the town for seven straight years, but that hasn't been good enough. They want to try and get to a different level, and I promise you the thing that's going to allow them to get to the next level is Steve Ballmer and his presence."

West, 79, went on to add that he never envisioned himself working anywhere else after being with the newly crowned champion Golden State Warriors since 2011. He loves a challenge, though, and wants to continue working alongside people who want to win.

"I promise you, behind the scenes, they'll get my undivided attention to try and help make a difference," West said.

He later emphasized that he wouldn't have come aboard if it was to replace someone in management, and all he wants to do is aid the Clippers any which way he can.

The Clippers finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 51-31 record. They were bounced in the opening round of the playoffs in seven games, marking the second year in a row in which they failed to win a series and sixth straight season where they did not advance to the Western Conference finals.
