The Boston Celtics officially traded the No. 1 pick in this year's draft to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday in exchange for the third overall selection and the rights to a protected future first-rounder.

Philadelphia will reportedly take former Washington standout Markelle Fultz first overall. The 6-foot-4 point guard is expected to team up with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Dario Saric to give the Sixers one of the most talented young cores in the league.

Boston will receive the Los Angeles Lakers' 2018 first-round selection should the pick fall between No. 2 and No. 5. Otherwise, the Celtics will obtain the more favorable of the Sacramento Kings' 2019 first-round pick and the 76ers' 2019 first-round rounder.

The Celtics now own seven first-rounders over the next three drafts, giving Boston plenty of opportunity to build around its current core.
