Agent hints Rose may be willing to take pay cut to stay with Knicks

Derrick Rose's agent says his client wants to remain with the New York Knicks, but concedes that decision rests with the team.

"Derrick loves New York and wants to be there," B.J. Armstrong told Bleacher Report's Yaron Weitzman. "We've expressed that to them and been very consistent about it. Whether it happens is on them, all we can do is be clear."

The agent also suggested that Rose, an unrestricted free agent, could be willing to take a pay cut.

"In the end, we want to explore everything - if you're going to compete, you clearly need a number of (top) players, so let's figure that out," Armstrong said. "We want the best team possible. That's it. All the other stuff - if the team wins, everyone wins."

Rose made $21.3 million this past season, his first with the Knicks. He underwent his fourth round of knee surgery in April after tearing his left meniscus late in the regular season. Rose was third on the 31-51 Knicks in scoring, but he hasn't played more than 66 games in a season since 2010-11.

Prior to becoming an agent, Armstrong played in the NBA, including six years with the Chicago Bulls under now-Knicks president Phil Jackson.
