Derek Fisher arrested on suspicion of DUI after car crash
Former Los Angeles Lakers point guard and ex-New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the California Highway Patrol confirmed to The San Bernardino Sun.
Fisher had former "Basketball Wives" star Gloria Govan - the ex-wife of Matt Barnes - as a passenger when his 2015 Cadillac overturned on the 101 Freeway at around 3:00 in the morning, officers said.
According to their report, Fisher was approaching an interchange when his car veered right onto the paved shoulder, eventually hitting a concrete curb and guardrail that caused the vehicle to overturn onto its roof and block several lanes of traffic.
Both Fisher and Govan were assisted out of the wreckage with no injuries.
The investigation into the crash revealed Fisher had been drinking, the CHP said, resulting in the 42-year-old's arrest.
Fisher competed for 18 seasons in the NBA as a member of the Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Dallas Mavericks, winning five championships with Los Angeles.
