3 forwards United should target after shifting focus from Griezmann

A change in transfer policy will apparently see Manchester United shift its attention after reportedly abandoning its pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.

Instead, United will reportedly concentrate on upgrading an attacking unit that, aside from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, struggled to produce a forward capable of towing the line without the Swedish forward in the fold.

Romelu Lukaku - Everton

Negotiating a transfer with a Premier League rival for its best player presents its own challenges without the added complications Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho might face during a possible attempt to reunite with Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.

Although Lukaku, 24, denied reports of a falling-out with Mourinho during their brief spell together at Chelsea before he was sold, the Belgian international will likely take some convincing to join United considering the number of elite options he's expected to attract on the heels of his 25-goal Premier League campaign.

Yet, if Mourinho is able to boost his attack with Lukaku in the fold, it would represent a rare moment where the Portuguese manager has acknowledged a past mistake, and signal the formation of one of the brightest young attacking units in football with Lukaku joining forces with prodigies such as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Alvaro Morata - Real Madrid

Alvaro Morata is another familiar face Mourinho could pursue.

The 24-year-old had nothing but positive things to say about Mourinho after making his debut with Real Madrid under the Portuguese manager in 2010. Now, Mourinho could be setting the stage to hand Morata another debut at Old Trafford.

While there's no doubting Lukaku's competence in front of goal, his lack of experience relative to Morata and limited experience handling the added workload of competing in European competition could be a deciding factor if Mourinho's forced to choose between the two - unless he just opts to snap them both up this summer.

With over 30 Champions League appearances to his name - including the 2015 Champions League final when he was on loan with Juventus and scored the team's lone goal during a 3-1 loss to Barcelona - Morata's wealth of experience could be vital for a United side returning to Europe's biggest competition for the first time since 2015.

Edinson Cavani - Paris Saint-Germain

Unlike the other two possibilities mentioned, Edinson Cavani is a finished product.

After demonstrating his lethal touch in both Italy and France, Cavani could be set to wreak havoc on Premier League defences alongside a familiar face at Manchester United in Zlatan Ibrahamovic following their time together at Paris Saint-Germain.

There hasn't been much chatter linking the Uruguay international with a move to Manchester, but an attraction to England may prove too much to resist after Cavani admitted his admiration for the Premier League last year.

"It is one of the most beautiful and important leagues in the world," Cavani said to FOX Sports, as translated by ESNPFC.

"When as a player you have dreamed of playing at the highest level, it's normal that it gets your attention to be linked as a target as a possible addition to important clubs in the world."

Following a season that saw Cavani lead Ligue 1 scorers with 35 goals, PSG could demand a fee exceeding the €63-million price tag it paid Napoli from a United side eager to upgrade and build off last season's sixth-place finish.
