Wenger's future at Arsenal to be resolved after FA Cup final
The wait is almost over.
Arsene Wenger revealed that a decision regarding his future at Arsenal will be made after his side competes in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
The decision is expected to be made during a board meeting following the final at Wembley Stadium on May 27, but Wenger wasn't willing to give a clue to reporters as to whether he's likely to remain at the club he's managed for 21 years.
"I think it is after the FA Cup final." Wenger told reporters when asked when a decision will be made. "Yes. You have certainly to know that there are many aspects of a football club which have to be discussed at a board meeting.
"One of them is, of course, what is happening with the manager, the future, the players who have to come in, the renewal of contracts. You don't miss problems in a board meeting.
"Of course I will be there. At the moment I think we should focus on short term and what's going on on Sunday and in the Cup final."
He continued to deflect questions over his future when reporters asked if Sunday's game against Everton will be his last match in charge of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium: "I cannot tell you that. Of the season, yes.
"The most important for us is to win the football game we play on Sunday. After that, what happens to me is less important. I'm here to serve the club and the best way to do that is to win the next game."
An eventual resolution will bring an end to the air of uncertainty at Arsenal as fans have been split over whether the 67-year-old should continue as manager.
There's been several fan protests calling for his dismissal as fifth-place Arsenal enters the final weekend of the season in danger of missing out on the Champions League for the first time since Wenger's arrival in 1996.
Despite Arsenal's dependence on Liverpool or Manchester City dropping points Sunday in order to find a way into the Champions League, the north London side enters the final matchday in fine form after registering four consecutive victories.
