Blue Jays place Travis on DL with knee injury

The disabled list has claimed another member of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Second baseman Devon Travis was placed on the 10-day DL on Tuesday due to a right knee bone bruise and cartilage injury. The club did not announce a timetable for his return as he'll require further testing.

It was believed Travis might land on the DL this week, but not for his knee. He injured his left wrist Sunday when he was hit by a 96-mph pitch, but seemed to dodge a major bullet after X-rays returned negative. It's not known how he injured his knee.

The 26-year-old has been no stranger to injuries. He dealt with issues with his right knee last postseason and eventually was forced to undergo surgery in the offseason.

Travis had been one of the Blue Jays' hottest hitters over the last month, slashing .352/.363/.611 with 16 doubles, four home runs, and 20 RBIs in 29 games.

The Blue Jays have placed 18 players on the DL this season.
