Dalton lauds Bengals rookie Ross: 'We've got the fastest guy in the NFL'

Andy Dalton sounds pleased with the way the Cincinnati Bengals attacked the NFL draft last month.

Asked this week about first-round receiver John Ross, who set a scouting combine record with a 40-yard dash time of 4.22 seconds, the veteran quarterback said opposing defenses will need to be on alert for his newest weapon.

"We've got the fastest guy in the NFL," Dalton said, according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN. "Obviously that's a good thing to have. Teams will have to know where he is because of that speed. It may level out some of these safeties who are tilting toward A.J. (Green). Now when you’ve got a guy who can run like he can, you’ve got a big threat going deep."

Ross' game isn't just about his wheels, either.

The former Washington star emerged as a true first-round prospect with an incredibly productive final season in college, recording 81 receptions for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Cincinnati still has some unanswered questions on the offensive line, but made much-needed upgrades at the skill positions with Ross and second-round running back Joe Mixon.

The Bengals need a boost from the young duo as the team finished 24th in scoring offense last season.
