Cousins has no issue playing on another 1-year deal

Kirk Cousins echoed his head coach's recent statement in an appearance on "Redskins Nation" this week, claiming he isn't looking past this upcoming season with the Washington Redskins.

"That's the way I've always felt. There are so many guys on this team on one-year deals. Even if it says it's a three- or four-year contract, really the only guarantees are this year," Cousins said, according to Stephen Czarda of Redskins.com. "Many of us are playing on one-year deals. I'm not the only one and we're not going to have careers if we don't have a great year this year, so we all don't look much further than this season."

The Redskins slapped Cousins with their franchise tag for the second year in a row, ensuring he'll have to play another season on a one-year contract.

The quarterback, who's coming off consecutive 4,000-yard seasons, will now be tasked with leading the team's offense without two of his most reliable weapons, DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. He'll also be without Sean McVay, his offensive coordinator of the past three years.

He appears to be making the best of the situation, though.

"It's about a process. It's about what can we do on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday here in the spring that gives us a chance in the fall to win games, and that's what I am excited about," he said. "I feel the stars on the team, the Josh Normans and the Terrelle Pryors, are coming in working hard, checking their egos at the door, and just showing up being great teammates and great leaders, that's a great step."
