Report: Raiders' Carr frustrated by slow pace of extension talks

Derek Carr seems to be growing impatient as he awaits a new contract that will secure his future with the Silver and Black.

The Oakland Raiders quarterback, who has previously stated a desire to hammer out an extension before training camp, is frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations, Mike Silver of NFL.com reports, citing sources.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie told reporters in March that contract discussions would ramp up after the draft. According to Silver's report, however, the team has yet to reach out to Carr's representation in the two-plus weeks since the NFL's main offseason event.

Having established himself as one of the league's brightest young stars, it's only a matter of time before Carr receives a deal that puts him among the highest paid players in the game.

But frustrations on his part certainly add an interesting dynamic to the situation as the offseason moves forward.

Carr, a 2014 second-round pick, has made significant progress in each of his three seasons under center for the Raiders. That steady ascent resulted in a 2016 campaign where he emerged as an MVP candidate before suffering a broken leg in Week 16, a devastating injury that both ended his season and effectively squashed Oakland's hopes of making a deep playoff run.

Leading the way to a 12-3 record over the first 15 games of the year, helping the Raiders to secure their first postseason berth since 2002, Carr completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 3,987 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.
