Report: Mets' Harvey didn't show up to ballpark Saturday

Though the New York Mets brass refused to say why Matt Harvey landed a three-day suspension, citing on Sunday morning only a "violation of club rules," it appears the 28-year-old was punished for failing to show up to work.

Harvey, who was scheduled to start Sunday's series finale at Citi Field before being suspended without pay and sent home, didn't show up to the ballpark Saturday, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. One source close to Harvey said the right-hander was hampered with a migraine, and cited possible communication issues with the Mets, but the club clearly felt differently about the situation.

Harvey, an All-Star in 2013, can appeal his suspension directly to an independent arbitrator, who would then assess whether the three-game ban was appropriate given the facts and circumstances of the case.

"We're not going into it in depth," Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters, including Newsday's Steven Marcus. "We're going to keep it in house. Where it's supposed to be. There's things with this job, certainly are internal the public can't see how hard it is. And this one's a tough one. We hope to put it behind us and move forward."

Adam Wilk, a 29-year-old left-hander who last pitched in the big leagues in 2015, ended up starting Sunday against the Miami Marlins in lieu of Harvey, giving up six runs - five earned - and three homers over 3 2/3 shaky innings.
