Philip Rivers' time as a Charger may be coming to an end.

With the longtime franchise quarterback entering next season at age 35, new Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn believes it's time to start planning for the future under center.

"I think we do have to get a young quarterback on campus," Lynn said Tuesday. "We need to start developing someone because we have two veteran quarterbacks, and both of them are long in the tooth. I think they have some good years left in them; don’t get me wrong. But you have to start thinking about down the line, too."

Lynn isn't expecting anyone to come replace Rivers, or backup Kellen Clemens, right away. He wants to bring in a young pass thrower to learn from his veteran field general.

"I would love for a young quarterback to get in here and learn from Philip," said Lynn. "Philip is the ultimate pro in my opinion.

"We have a good situation for a young quarterback that doesn’t have to come in and play right now. He can sit, watch and learn."

The Chargers hold the seventh overall pick in the upcoming draft as well as one pick in each of the following six rounds.
