Mora set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for charity
UCLA head coach Jim Mora is set to embark on a 19,000-foot climb up Mount Kilimanjaro to benefit the charity of New England Patriots defensive end Chris Long.
Long's charity, called "Waterboys," raises funds to build wells with sustainable drinking water in Tanzania, the African country where Kilimanjaro rests. Mora will be accompanied on the climb by Long, other former NFL players, and an American servicewoman and serviceman, both of whom were wounded overseas.
"I don't think I have too much to complain about or be worried about compared to them, so I'll just offer my support where I can," Mora told Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times. "Any time you climb a mountain, it's a team effort."
Mora is actually a rather accomplished climber, and once ascended Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in the state of Washington. Rainier is said to be more technically difficult than Kilimanjaro.
The climb up Kilimanjaro will begin next week.
