White won't trust Jon Jones to headline a UFC event again

Jon Jones has a lot of work to do to get back in the boss' good graces.

During an appearance on SiriusXM 93 on Thursday, UFC president Dana White told Jim Rome that the former light heavyweight champion won't be in the main event of a fight card anytime soon following his recent suspension due to a USADA violation reported this past July.

"I would never take the risk of headlining a show with Jon Jones again," White said, according to Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting. "I'd put him on the card. But I wouldn't headline with him until he consistently gets back on track."

Jones' failed drug test removed him from the main event of UFC 200 three days before the show, an embarrassing incident that cost both him and the promotion millions. Jones is now ineligible to compete until July 6, 2017.

From March 2010-April 2016, Jones has been the closing act of every card he's been on except for UFC 126, his last non-title fight.

Widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in MMA today, Jones' suspension continues a trend of troubling behavior that includes once testing positive for cocaine, and his involvement in a 2015 hit-and-run that forced the UFC to strip him of the undisputed light heavyweight title.

WME-IMG are apparently still behind Jones as a headlining act, but White believes Jones needs to prove himself all over again before being given that privilege.

"Time off is nobody's friend in the sport," White said.
