South Carolina police officer Michael Blackmore was able to talk a man out of a possible suicide attempt by bonding with him over football.
The rescue occurred at 3:45 a.m. last Saturday after Blackmore and two other officers, as well as two EMS workers, found a man sitting on a bridge, crying, according to Glen Luke Flanagan of The State. It's unclear why the man was ready to jump, but he can be heard on footage from a body-worn camera saying he's "tired of living."
Blackmore discovered the man was a Washington Redskins and South Carolina fan, and after a brief conversation, was able to coax him to come down from the railing.
"You're just having a bad night tonight," Blackmore said. "But tomorrow night, when you're sitting around and you're watching the Gamecocks - or on Sunday when you're watching the Redskins play or whatever - you'll look back (like), 'Man, what was I thinking Friday night?' You're just having a bad night."
