Report: Ryan Lochte could compete on 'Dancing With The Stars'

With one fell swoop - or a weekly series of sashays - Ryan Lochte may recoup all his losses.

The U.S. Olympic swimmer is a very strong candidate to be part of the next cast of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," sources told ESPN's Darren Rovell, after Lochte made international headlines during Rio 2016 for fabricating his account of a clash with security personnel at a Brazilian gas station.

When contacted, ABC would not comment on the rumor.

ABC reportedly began talking to Lochte about appearing on the show before the Summer Games.

The 12-time Olympic medalist returned home from Rio immediately after claiming he and three other members of the U.S. swim team were robbed at gunpoint by criminals posing as police. Investigation into the incident revealed that Lochte and his teammates were confronted by security after drunkenly vandalizing a gas station bathroom.

Lochte's since fessed up to his fabrication and apologized for his actions - which actually brought more trouble to his teammates, at least in the legal sense. But that wasn't enough to prevent him from paying a price, as he lost all four of his sponsorship agreements the day after the Olympics ended.

"Dancing With the Stars," which pays its contestants lucrative salaries, is expected to announce its next cast Tuesday. The show premieres Sept. 12.
