Jim Harbaugh: 49ers wanted to draft Julio Jones
Alabama has produced a ton of NFL talent since Saban took the reins, so why did Harbaugh choose Jones? Because he wanted to draft him.
"I've always had a ton of respect for Julio Jones," Harbaugh told Scout.com, according to ESPN. "When I was with the San Francisco 49ers, we were hoping to draft Julio. Always have had tremendous respect for him, competed against."
Jones was drafted sixth overall in 2011 after the Atlanta Falcons traded up with the Cleveland Browns to land the talented pass catcher. Harbaugh's 49ers picked one spot later and selected edge rusher Aldon Smith, who was released by the team after a series of legal issues.
