Boulder DA drops assault charges against Colorado lineman Josh Tupou

The assault case in which Colorado defensive lineman Josh Tupou was accused of starting a brawl on University Hill in February has been dismissed.

The Boulder County District Attorney's Office filed a motion to dismiss the case against Tupou at a hearing Friday. County Judge Norma Sierra accepted the motion and released the bond for Tupou.

"We are happy the Boulder District Attorney's Office has decided to dismiss the charges," said Jon Banashek, Tupou's attorney, after the hearing.

The case stemmed from an incident that resulted in Tupou facing assault charges and two other players, Jaleel Awini and Donovan Lee, being issued misdemeanor assault summons for a house party brawl in February.
