The University of Florida's Athletic Director Jeremy Foley estimated that Florida will receive between $1.8 million and $1.9 million from the cancelled college football season opener against Idaho because of current insurance policies, USA TODAY Sports' David Jones reports.
Florida has taken out an insurance policy to cover all home games for decades. Foley said that the Gators made a little over $1.8 million in ticket sales, the amount covered by the policy.
The guarantees for the visiting team, which was $975,000 for Idaho, is not part of the insurance policy.
Both Florida and Idaho agreed to cancel the game on Aug. 30.
