Oklahoma State hires North Texas' Morris as coach
Oklahoma State hired North Texas coach Eric Morris as its next head coach, the program announced Tuesday.
Morris has been with North Texas for the last three seasons, posting a 21-15 record, including a 10-1 mark this season. He'll remain with the Mean Green through the rest of the campaign before heading to Stillwater, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
North Texas' 45.8 points per game leads all FBS teams this year. With victories over Temple on Saturday and then in the American Conference title game, the Mean Green could earn a spot in the College Football Playoff as the top Group of 5 conference champion.
Morris played wide receiver at Texas Tech from 2004-08 under legendary college coach Mike Leach. He was also the head coach at Incarnate Word from 2018 to 2021 and served as Washington State's offensive coordinator in 2022 before taking the North Texas head coaching position.
Oklahoma State dismissed longtime head coach Mike Gundy in late September. Doug Meacham, who was Gundy's offensive coordinator, has been the interim coach since his firing.
The Cowboys are 1-10 this season and winless in Big 12 conference play. They'll face Iowa State on Saturday.
