5-star DE Simmons commits to Texas
Texas added five-star edge defender Colin Simmons to its 2024 recruiting class Thursday.

Simmons is the No. 1 defensive end prospect and the No. 7 overall recruit on the ESPN 300. The 6-foot-3 defender will remain close to home, as he is also the top-ranked prospect in the state of Texas.
The Longhorns' 2024 class features six other ESPN 300 commits - including the cycle's No. 1 running back, Jerrick Gibson - but Simmons is the first five-star who's committed to head coach Steve Sarkisian's program this year.
Simmons said he prioritized his family when making his decision.
"Life after football, networking, and family," Simmons told On3's Hayes Fawcett when explaining why he chose Texas. "Being able to take care of my family is the most important thing to me."
Simmons committed to the Longhorns over Miami and LSU, among others.
