Alabama believes wide receiver John Metchie tore his ACL in the SEC championship game victory over Georgia on Saturday, sources told ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

Metchie went to the ground late in the second quarter after breaking back toward the ball on his route. He racked up 97 yards and one touchdown before exiting.

Metchie walked off the field slowly and watched the end of the quarter from the sideline. He accompanied the Crimson Tide to the field for the beginning of the second half, but with his helmet nowhere in sight.

"John Metchie is probably going to be out now, and we have a couple other guys that may be injured," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said postgame. "It creates a lot of opportunity for a lot of other players. Hopefully, we'll be able to get them to step up."

Metchie entered conference championship week with a team-high 90 receptions for 1,045 yards and seven touchdowns. The Canadian caught the game-winning two-point play in the fourth overtime of the Iron Bowl a week ago to keep Alabama in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings.

Metchie and Jameson Williams entered Saturday's game as the only two Alabama receivers with more than 300 receiving yards on the season.
