The Southeastern Conference announced Monday it has fined the University of Tennessee $250,000 after fans threw trash on the field and hit members of Ole Miss' football team late in the Volunteers' 31-26 home loss at Neyland Stadium.

"The disruption of Saturday night's game is unacceptable and cannot be repeated on any SEC campus," conference commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement.

The funds will be deducted from Tennessee's share of SEC revenue distribution.

Tennessee must also meet several other requirements set forth by the SEC, including reviewing game footage to identify individuals who threw objects onto the field and banning them from attending games for the rest of the season.

The incident - which saw a golf ball thrown at Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin - delayed the game 20 minutes.
