"Bryce is the quarterback for right now, so he's going to operate with the first team," Saban told reporters ahead of Saturday's spring game, via Charlie Potter of 247 Sports.
The Crimson Tide entered the offseason needing a replacement for Jones, who entered the NFL draft after steering the program to its first national championship in three years.
Young, a former five-star recruit, is competing with third-year sophomore Paul Tyson, and true freshman Jalen Milroe could factor into the equation at some point as well. Young completed 13 of 22 pass attempts for 156 yards and a touchdown in limited action last season. The 6-footer was the top-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class.
Saban stopped short of declaring Young his opening-day starter. The defending champions are slated to make their 2021 debut Sept. 4 against Miami.
