Ohio State's Ryan Day has tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced, according to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman.

Assistant head coach Larry Johnson was slated to serve as Day's replacement for Ohio State's game against Illinois, but the contest was canceled late Friday due to an outbreak within the Buckeyes program.

Ohio State traveled to Champaign, Illinois, without Day, who entered isolation upon receiving his positive test result.

Day owns a 20-1 record as head coach of the Buckeyes, which includes a three-game stint in 2018 when he assumed the role while Urban Meyer served a suspension.

Ohio State was spotted fourth in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings behind Alabama, Notre Dame, and Clemson.
