Washington State quarterback Jayden de Laura won't play Saturday versus Stanford after testing positive for COVID-19, sources told Theo Lawson of The Spokesman-Review.

If he's placed in a 14-day quarantine, de Laura will also miss the Apple Cup against rival Washington on Nov. 27.

De Laura was off to a solid start for the Cougars, throwing for 548 yards with four touchdowns and one pick over the first two games of the season. The freshman won the starting job in fall camp over Gunner Cruz and Cammon Cooper.

Cruz, a redshirt freshman, will take de Laura's place in the starting lineup, according to Lawson.

Washington State is off to a 1-1 start in 2020. The Cougars are one of six teams in the Pac-12 that have managed to complete two games amid a rash of COVID-19 issues across the conference.
