Stanford quarterback Davis Mills won't play in the Pac-12 opener against Oregon because of COVID-19 concerns, the team announced.
Wide receiver Connor Wedington and defensive end Trey LaBounty will also miss the contest. All three are sidelined "due to COVID-19 testing results and contact tracing protocols."
Mills was in line for his first career opening-day start, as he began the 2019 season on the bench behind K.J. Costello before eventually starting six games. The senior threw for 11 touchdowns and five interceptions last year, completing 65.6% of his passes for 1,960 yards.
Wedington, a senior, has 91 receptions for 814 yards and one touchdown across 28 career appearances. LaBounty, a junior, has only seen action in one game.
