No. 1 overall recruit Jack Sawyer announced Friday he will skip his final high school season to train prior to early enrollment at Ohio State.

The five-star defensive end - who committed to the Buckeyes in February 2019 - planned to enroll at Ohio State in January, but he changed course amid "the uncertainty of this high school football season and the probability of a spring collegiate season."

The Big Ten announced last week that the fall football season has been canceled, and the conference is looking to play in the spring instead.

Sawyer is among five 2021 Buckeyes recruits who have decided not to play their final high school season, joining TreVeyon Henderson, Jordan Hancock, Sam Hart, and Evan Pryor.

As a junior in 2019, he racked up 13.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss.
