The NCAA is extending its recruiting dead period across all sports through July 31, the organization announced Wednesday.
"The extension maintains consistent recruiting rules for all sports and allows coaches to focus on the student-athletes who may be returning to campus," council coordination committee chair M. Grace Calhoun said in a statement. "The committee is committed to reviewing the dead period again in late June or early July."
Dead periods forbid coaches from any face-to-face contact with college-bound players. Additionally, coaches aren't allowed to watch the student-athletes compete and can't visit their high schools.
As of June 1, however, the NCAA will begin allowing strength and conditioning coaches to virtually observe and discuss student-athletes' voluntary workouts. Coaches won't be able to help conduct those workouts, though.
The NCAA's in-person recruiting ban was first put into place on March 13.
