Vanderbilt HC Derek Mason to return in 2020 despite 2-8 record
Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason will return for the 2020 season despite another disappointing campaign for the Commodores, athletic director Malcolm Turner announced Tuesday.
I want to make it very clear that Derek Mason will be our head football coach moving forward. Coach Mason has my full support and I am committed to working with him to ensure our football program has the necessary resources and support to succeed.

Mason - who received a contract extension in February - has led Vanderbilt to a 2-8 record this season, including a 1-6 mark in the SEC.
Through six seasons, the 50-year-old owns a 26-46 record.
Mason led the Commodores to bowl appearances last season and in 2016. Vanderbilt, which has only made a bowl game nine times in its 116-year history, lost both contests.
The Commodores play East Tennessee State at home Saturday before ending their season on the road against Tennessee.
