Don't count Nick Saban in for College Football Playoff expansion.

The Alabama head coach told reporters Thursday that doubling the playoff from four teams to eight would "sort of disintegrate" bowl games not associated with the national championship.

"I think the playoff ... continues to expand to minimize the importance of those games, maybe to the point where those game won't even exist," Saban said, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough. "I'm not sure that is the best thing, overall, for college football."

Saban argued playoff expansion would lead more players to skip their bowl games to prepare for the NFL draft, resulting in fewer fans attending the games.

"Which I'm not sure is good for college football," Saban said. "I'm not really for going eight teams in a playoff. It's a hypothetical question, that I have enough issues and problems to solve without thinking about something that may or may not happen."

The College Football Playoff is currently in the fifth year of a 12-year contract.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide face No. 4 Oklahoma on Saturday in the Orange Bowl. The winner will advance to the national championship game.
