The New York Jets are planning to make a run at hiring Jim Harbaugh away from Michigan to replace Todd Bowles as head coach after the season, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

The Jets are widely expected to fire Bowles, who owns a 26-40 record across four seasons with one game left to go in 2018. New York has also been connected to former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

The Jets reportedly began doing their homework on Harbaugh about four weeks ago, and it's believed they're planning to give him a financial offer too lucrative to turn down.

Harbaugh has been adamant that he has no interest in leaving Michigan, his alma mater, for another shot at the NFL. The 55-year-old had a successful four-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers between 2011-2014, going 44-19-1 and leading the franchise to an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII.
