Georgia lands commitment from 5-star center Clay Webb
Kirby Smart made a huge splash in the 2019 recruiting cycle on Monday, besting a rival in the process.
Five-star center Clay Webb officially committed to Georgia, he announced at his high school gym in Oxford, Ala.
Webb is the No. 11 overall prospect in the ESPN 300, and the top interior offensive lineman in his class.
As the second-ranked player in the state, he was thought to be headed to Alabama prior to Monday's announcement.
The 6-foot-4, 307-pounder held official offers from a number of big-time programs across the country, including Clemson, Auburn, Ohio State, Florida, and Michigan, in addition to the Crimson Tide.
Webb is Smart's second five-star commit from the 2019 class, joining No. 2 overall prospect Nolan Smith. Georgia has secured seven top-100 commitments, and 16 four- and five-star recruits this cycle.
