The Kliff Kingsbury sweepstakes reportedly came to a quick conclusion, as the former Texas Tech head coach struck a deal with USC on Tuesday, a source told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman.

Kingsbury will serve as offensive coordinator underneath head coach Clay Helton, adds ESPN's Jake Trotter.

The 39-year-old was head coach of the Red Raiders from 2013-18 and was recently fired following a 5-7 campaign. He played for Texas Tech from 1998-2002 prior to a three-year NFL career that included stints with the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets.

He was a coveted coaching candidate at both the college and NFL levels. The Los Angeles Rams reportedly contacted him about a consulting role this season.

The Trojans went 5-7 this year with a conference record of 4-5 and wrapped up their campaign with a three-game losing streak.
