Michigan replaced LSU in the top 4 of the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday, putting them in position to compete for the national championship.
The Wolverines joined No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, and No. 3 Notre Dame atop the second edition of the rankings.

No. 5 Georgia was the top-ranked team outside a playoff spot, followed by No. 6 Oklahoma. LSU, which is coming off a 29-0 loss at home to Alabama, dropped four spots to No. 7.
Alabama, Georgia, and LSU were three of seven teams from the SEC represented in the rankings. No other conference had more teams in the top 25.
The most notable addition to the list was Michigan State, which debuted at No. 18 after failing to crack the rankings a week ago. Utah, Texas A&M, and Virginia were all dropped from the top 25 after losses over the weekend.
