Washington quarterback Jake Browning was benched in the third quarter of Saturday's game against Cal in favor of backup Jake Haener.

Browning went 8-for-15 for 109 yards with one touchdown and one interception before being replaced by Haener. The move immediately backfired for the Huskies, as the freshman pivot threw a pick-6 on his second passing attempt.

Browning returned to the game late in the fourth quarter but couldn't rally the Huskies as Cal held on for the 12-10 victory.

Washington entered Saturday's game ranked 15th in the country. Browning had thrown 11 touchdown passes against seven interceptions.
