More than seven years after he suffered a spinal cord injury during a college football game that left him paralyzed from the neck down, Chris Norton walked his wife, Emily Summers, down the aisle on their wedding day.
On Saturday, the 26-year-old Norton exchanged vows with Summers from his wheelchair and then made the 7-yard walk with his bride by his side. The special moment was documented by People.
Norton, a freshman at the time, was injured while covering a kickoff for Iowa's Luther College. He was airlifted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he was told he had a 3 percent chance of ever moving his body below his neck again.
"I wasn't going to accept that," Norton said. "I was going to be part of that 3 percent."
Since then, he started the Chris Norton Foundation and has raised over $800,000 for people with spinal cord injuries. Together with Summers, Norton hopes to continue to "give people hope and inspiration that they can overcome anything they're going through."
