Marjory Stoneman Douglas quarterback Tyler Goodman was in a meeting with two recruiters from Nichols College when a gunman opened fire at his high school in Parkland, Fla., last month, killing 17 people.

Goodman told Mike Saccone of Boston 25 News that Nichols, a Division III school located in Dundley, Mass., wasn't among his top choices initially, but said the bond he formed with the recruiters during the tragedy changed his mind.

"Being stuck with two recruiting coaches for three hours in such a tragic moment, we kind of formed a bond, like something special," he said.

Goodman announced his commitment to Nichols on Twitter on Feb. 23.

Goodman said he hopes to wear No. 17 at Nichols to honor those who were killed in the shooting, including his assistant football coach, Aaron Feis, and his close friend, Joaquin Oliver.

"My goal now is to succeed so the 17 up there watching can be proud of me," Goodman said. "Even though I didn't know them all, in God's eyes, we're all family."
