Zaire insists he gives Florida 'best chance' to win despite struggles

Florida endured yet another humbling defeat Saturday to Missouri, but Malik Zaire remains confident he's the right person to lead the Gators out of their funk, according to Edgar Thompson of The Orlando Sentinel.

"I feel like I give the team the best chance, but I feel like if you don't feel like that you shouldn't even be in the game," Zaire said following Saturday's loss. "I want to help this team get to a bowl game. I want to help this team finish on a positive note."

Zaire may feel like he's the best man as Florida's quarterback, but interim head coach Randy Shannon wasn't willing to go that far in his postgame evaluation, claiming the graduate transfer failed to give the team the lift it wanted, while freshman Feleipe Franks gave the offense "a spark" after replacing Zaire in the fourth quarter, according to Thompson.

Shannon added he'll revisit the muddled quarterback situation once again as the team prepares for its next game against South Carolina.
