Bob Stoops' shocking retirement from Oklahoma on Wednesday brought the number of active FBS head coaches with a national championship from five to four.

Only Alabama's Nick Saban, Ohio State's Urban Meyer, Clemson's Dabo Swinney, and Florida State's Jimbo Fisher can claim national championships among their coaching brethren throughout the country.

Coach Titles Years
Nick Saban 5 2003, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015
Urban Meyer 3 2006, 2008, 2014
Dabo Swinney 1 2016
Jimbo Fisher 1 2013

The fact Saban and Meyer have won eight of the last 14 titles speaks to their dominance in the coaching field. Both men will enter next season with teams likely to be in the top five of the AP poll. Clemson and Florida State also figure to have championship-worthy outfits, meaning it could be another year before a different coach wins their first title.

If one of those four stalwarts were to falter, there's a number of talented coaches throughout the country that could grab their first title with a strong season.
