Alabama loses commitment from 4-star RB Dameon Pierce

Nick Saban is usually used to bringing in top recruits, not losing them.

But things took a different turn Thursday when four-star running back Dameon Pierce told Tom VanHaaren of ESPN he would be decommitting from Alabama. Pierce cited the Crimson Tide's depth at running back as the reason.

"When you go to college, you want to have an equal opportunity to play," Pierce said. "Of course there's going to be competition everywhere, but sometimes too much competition can be overwhelming."

Alabama is down to just a pair of commitments for the 2018 class and rank outside the top 25 in recruiting at the moment, which has never happened to the program since ESPN started its rankings, according to VanHaaren.

Pierce, the No. 100 player in the ESPN 300, has also visited Georgia, Florida State, and Florida. He's also considering a visit to Clemson.
