SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is calling on the Arkansas House to pass an amendment exempting college sports venues from the latest gun law passed by governor Asa Hutchinson.

It was just a week ago that the state passed a law allowing concealed handguns to be carried into college sporting events. The Senate immediately voted 22-10 to exempt college venues, including the University of Arkansas, from the law.

Sankey released a statement on Tuesday, urging the House to follow through on the exemption.

The law is set to take effect on Sept. 15, but the Arkansas State Police have been given until January to develop training techniques for the law.

Donald W. Reynolds Stadium on the campus in Fayetteville seats 72,000 people, while Bud Walton Arena for the basketball program has a capacity of 19,368.
