The departure of D'Onta Foreman could be Chris Warren's gain.
Texas announced Wednesday it would be applying for a medical redshirt for the running back, according to Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman. Warren was lost for the season after the Longhorns fourth game because of a knee injury.
If Warren receives the medical redshirt he would get his sophomore season of eligibility back and be the presumed starter with Foreman headed to the NFL.
Warren rushed for 366 yards and three touchdowns before suffering the injury.
