Report: Deshaun Watson has $5M insurance policy against injury

Deshaun Watson is making sure injuries won't derail his lucrative career, even if he doesn't reach the NFL.

The Clemson quarterback took out a $5-million insurance policy that covers a career-ending injury, and another $5 million to protect against loss-of-value in the draft due to injury, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.

High-profile collegiate athletes have done this before, as injuries can significantly impact their draft selection.

A recent example is former Oregon corner Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, who suffered a serious knee injury and saw his draft stock plummet from the first to seventh round in 2015.

The Ducks purchased loss-of-value insurance for Ekpre-Olumu prior to the injury.
