After a year away from the gridiron, linebacker Jordan Mastrogiovanni is returning to Texas A&M, this time as a walk-on.
"I texted coach and told him I had started working out again and felt like I was back in pretty good shape," Mastrogiovanni told Taylor Hamm of 247 Sports. "I asked him if I could give him a call, we talked, and he invited me into his office. That’s kind of how things got started. I knew that I would always regret it if I didn't reach out and give it a shot. I'm so glad it worked out and I can't wait to get back out there and prove myself."
Two years ago, Mastrogiovanni started seven games for the Aggies and in nine total games contributed 26 tackles. As a freshman in 2013, he played in all 13 games, recording 26 tackles along the way.
His second go-around with the Aggies will be a bit different, however. As a walk-on, Mastrogiovanni will have to shake off a ton of rust and earn playing time over several scholarship players, a pair of challenges that excite the 230-pounder.
"I'll do anything I can to get back on the field but it's really about whatever I can do to help the team," he said. "If I'm a starter, awesome, if not, I'm just going to do everything I can to help the team."
Upon being added to the Aggies' roster, Mastrogiovanni will have two years of eligibility remaining.
