Report: Rutgers interviewed Jay Williams for head coaching vacancy
Rutgers has apparently added a major name to its coaching search.
The Scarlet Knights interviewed former Duke star Jay Williams on Monday, according to Keith Sargeant of nj.com. Williams isn't a leading candidate for the job, according to the report, but the fact that he interviewed is still significant.
A New Jersey native, Williams could certainly help Rutgers when it comes to recruiting, and the program desperately needs it. Eddie Jordan was recently let go after guiding the team to a disappointing 7-25 campaign.
Williams starred for the Blue Devils from 1999-2002 before the Chicago Bulls made him a second overall pick. The 34-year-old's NBA career was brief, though, due to a motorcycle accident. Williams now works as a college basketball analyst for ESPN.
Rutgers is also reportedly courting Rhode Island head coach Danny Hurley for the job.
