Illinois State's Deontae Hawkins suspended indefinitely for violating team rules
Illinois State forward Deontae Hawkins has been suspended indefinitely after he was sent home by the team during a recent 10-day trip to Spain, College Basketball Talk's Scott Phillips reports.
The Redbirds played four exhibition games on the trip and there is no word what Hawkins did to receive the suspension. However, head coach Dan Muller told Jim Benson of Pantagraph.com that Hawkins was sent home after the second game, but remains on campus.
"He went to Dayton only because if we sent him to Chicago there's no ride (for him)," Muller said. "There was a lot of speculation (on the Internet), and it's extremely disappointing to me to hear what some people are saying about it."
Hawkins posted 7.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in over 22 minutes per game last season.
