The Mountain West Conference is slated to kick off an annual eight-team tournament in the Cayman Islands beginning in November 2017.
The Cayman Basketball Classic will be sponsored by Global Sports Management, in partnership with Caymax Sports LTD.
"We are ecstatic about Global Sports partnering with Caymax Sports in making this one of the top preseason college basketball events annually," tournament director Maury Hanks said.
"Playing this tournament in a venue alongside the most beautiful beaches in the world will make this an event that everyone in college basketball will be trying to get an opportunity to compete in for the future."
In terms of strength of schedule, the tournament will ideally propel the conference to greater heights.
Non-conference matchups hurt the Mountain West, as regular season champion Boise State was slapped with an 11-seed, while Colorado State was left out altogether despite winning 27 games.
